About the University 🏫

Under the famous mountains of Mount Fuji you will find Yamanashi Gakuin University, which is truly a university with a global perspective. The university's has around 4000 students, 57% of whom are international students from over 40 countries. The global perspective is also reflected in the teachers' background, where 88% of lecturers are educated abroad.

Campus is modern and stands up to multicultural learning surrounded by a beautiful traditional Japanese environment in the shadow of Mount Fuji. Despite the traditional Japanese environment, the university is based on the American system and all teaching takes place in English. It is worth mentioning that Yamanashi Gakuin University offers study abroad semesters and a handful of english-taught undergraduate degrees.

The teaching takes place in relatively small classes, so that student learning is in absolute focus. Yamanashi Gakuin University also relies heavily on integrating students into Japanese culture. Therefore, alongside the classes, teaching and workshops are held with the intention of giving you the unique opportunity to get the best out of the host country.

About the city 🌇

Yamanashi Gakuin University is located in Kofu, the capital of the Yamanashi Prefecture of Japan. Yamanashi is well known for its beautiful mountains, lakes, historical sites, hiking trails, orchards and vineyards, while the iconic Mount Fuji is the city's backdrop. The city is known for being idyllic, making Kofu the perfect place to enjoy the varied beauty of Japan's four seasons.

Yamanashi, also known as Japan's fruit kingdom, is infamous for being the home of Japanese wine. A wide selection of fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruits are readily available, and students can store the freshest vitamins on the soil in the body after a session of fruit-picking at local farms. If you have a penchant for wine, you must not miss the wine tasting at the many wineries in the area.

If you need some more action in your student city, you can enjoy the local events through various markets, cultural parades and fireworks festivals hosted all year round.

If the wine tasting awakens the inner adventurous soul in you, you're just a 90-minute train ride from the world's most vibrating metropolis, Tokyo. Here, the selection of entertainment, shopping, gourmet opportunities and not least the nightlife is completely indescribable.

Housing 🏡


Students can stay at the beautiful student accommodations on campus, some of which overlook Mount Fuji. You basically have your own bedroom and share a bathroom, kitchen and common areas with your fellow students. Students living on campus accommodations have 3 hot meals included every weekday in the building's large cafeteria.

In the student accommodations on campus, there is a good mix of Japanese and international students, which makes the common rooms equipped with a TV, gaming area, music studio and study lounges which are the perfect circumstances to make friends from all over the world.
