About the city 🌇

The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, is known as one of the most historic and popular destinations in Europe. The perfect city to study, experience and socialize in, as pretty much everyone speaks English.

In Europe's most laidback and libertarian city, you can unfold as you've always wanted. You will be offered beautiful canals, bridges that cross the beautiful canals and bikes which are a regular part of the cityscape along with trams. There is the opportunity to experience new cultural sights constantly during your stay, charismatic architecture, historic buildings and shopping opportunities comparable to New York.

You can easily take a break from big city vibes by visiting Amsterdam's cosy parks such as Vondelpark for relaxation or Westerpark, which offers open-air theatre performances. When you're really going for authentic shopping, Amsterdam is the place for various markets.

You must also visit the famous Albert Cuyp Market, which is always well attended by tourists from all over the world. Are you more into authentic markets? Then visit the award-winning Dappermark, previously voted The Netherlands' best market.

The night life in Amsterdam always offers ample opportunity to go out and socialize, as every night feels like weekend evenings. There's nightlife for everyone, and you can't help but discover something new every time you explore the city. Where we think you find the most is at Rembrandtlein and Leidseplein, but we suggest definitely heading to De Pijp and De Jordaan if you want to experience the nightlife as the locals do.

Housing Opportunities🏫

Campus accommodation is not common in the Netherlands. Most students rent a room in a student house. If you need help finding a place to live, Tio will assist you.

Since there is a high demand for student accommodation, we recommend starting your search as soon as possible and, where possible, letting Tio help you. Average accommodation prices for student housing in the Netherlands vary between €450 and €800 a month. Should you decide to try to find your own place to live, here are some helpful links:

Keep in mind that most student housing is not furnished unless otherwise specified and you will only be renting a room, and may have to share the other facilities with other students.

I was looking for a freemover stay abroad through Uniclub and I got some of the best service I have experienced. They took care of all the practicalities, and removed almost all the hassle of work it can be to apply for an exchange stay.

I have just returned from my exchange stay in Ireland, which would not have been possible if it were not for Uniclub. If you are looking for an exchange as a freemover, then I can not recommend UniClub enough!
