The Sino-British College (SBC), is an international university established jointly with the University of Shanghai for Science & Technology (USST) and nine leading UK universities: the University of Bradford, the University of Huddersfield, the University of Leeds, Leeds Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Salford, the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
β
At SBC you can study both a semester and a full bachelor's degree, but not a whole master's as they do not offer this. SBC is based on a beautiful and historic campus in the heart of the vibrant Shanghai. Currently, the university has about 1800 students, about 50 of whom are international students from 20 countries. The teaching takes place in English with instruction from highly qualified academic teachers from over 15 different countries.
β
SBC is the only Shanghai-based university to be licensed by the Chinese Ministry of Education, which offers courses in collaboration with several overseas universities (the so-called "1 to N model"), either taught entirely at the Shanghai campus or with a study period abroad. Candidates are awarded titles from one of the UK partner institutions.
β
Shanghai is truly the metropolis of China that challenges New York and Paris in terms of modernity and cultural experiences. With over 24 million inhabitants, you are guaranteed diversity that shines through both with the Chinese but surprisingly also the Western culture that flows together in the big city.
β
Shanghai has been in resounding development over the years and is today among the world's most rich and innovative cities, where quality of life has increased significantly. There are tons of activities such as international food, wild nightlife, museums, amusement parks (including Shanghai Disney), giant shopping centers, art galleries, sports events and opportunities to create a network with the many "Fortune 500" companies in the city.
β
What is worth knowing about Shanghai before you come is that the city is divided into two parts, Pudong and Puxi. Pudong was back in the 90s a slightly deserted area consisting of rice paddies and nature, but is today the area you have probably seen in pictures. The area is surrounded by dizzying skyscrapers including one of the world's largest buildings, Jin Mao Tower, Asia's supremely largest department store and the well-known TV tower. Puxi is the city for the adventurous who loves to shop, where the city contains several well-known shopping centers, go to various bars, explore cultural centers and museums and even a Zoo.
β
Shanghai is undoubtedly an overwhelming experience in just the right way with its futuristic features while keeping the noble Chinese traditions and architecture of ancient China in place.
β
Students have the opportunity to live on campus on SBC's own student housing. You can choose from a studio apartment or share student accommodation with other fellow students in either a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. The homes are furnished and equipped with all standard equipment including bathroom in the homes.
