When are the Semester Start Dates?
In Germany, the academic year is divided into two semesters - the winter semester and the summer semester. The winter semester usually starts in October and ends in February, with lectures starting in mid-October. The summer semester typically runs from April to July, with lectures starting in mid-April. It's important to note that specific start and end dates can vary slightly between universities and programs, so it's best to check with your chosen institution for their academic calendar.
What does it cost to study?
Tuition fees for undergraduate programs at public universities in Germany are generally free, although there may be small administration fees. However, tuition fees may apply for certain master's degree programs or for students from non-EU countries. Living expenses in Germany can vary depending on location, but students should budget for around €850 - €1,000 per month to cover accommodation, food, and other expenses.
What type of Visa and Insurance do i need?
For EU citizens studying in Germany, a valid health insurance is mandatory but a student visa is not required. Non-EU citizens, on the other hand, need to obtain a student visa and provide proof of health insurance when applying. Public health insurance is usually mandatory for non-EU students, while private health insurance is also an option. It's important to research the specific requirements and have all necessary documents and insurance in place before starting studies in Germany.

What are the Admissions Requirements?
To be admitted to a university in Germany, applicants generally need to meet certain requirements. These include academic qualifications equivalent to the German Abitur, proof of language proficiency, application documents such as transcripts and a motivation letter, and proof of financial means to support oneself during studies. Some programs may also require an entrance exam or portfolio. It's important to check the specific requirements for the program and meet all deadlines.
Where can i apply for Scholarships?
Scandinavian, German and Dutch students can apply for financial aid in the form of governmental loans and scholarships. If you live outside the mentioned countries, you can always apply for scholarships offered to international students by the university.
